Our Community Commitment
As part of the Newcastle and greater Hunter community, we support a number of community initiatives. In the past 12 months, we have donated over $15,000 to support local, national and international causes we care about.
Empowering women – Got Your Back Sista and Jodie’s Place Refuge
We are also proud supporters of Jodie’s Place Refuge near Cessnock. Our involvement started in 2015 when our Practice Director, Amber Moncrieff, heard about the service struggling after a break-in and discovered they had no website or on-line donations facility. Amber established both, funding them into the years ahead. The team then got involved with fundraising, as did our patients by helping to organise several fundraising events, including movie nights bringing total funds raised to close to $20,000 in under 2 years! These funds were used in late 2017 to renovate Jodie’s Place, making it more welcoming and practical, as well as open a 4th bedroom suitable for another woman and her children. In 2018 further fundraising meant the bathroom was renovated, making it safer and more functional.
We have also donated over $3000 in the past year to Got Your Back Sista to help women and children lead happier, safer lives.
Breast cancer charities
We also support breast cancer fundraising. We have run Pink Ribbon team events every year since 2009, donating over bringing our total Pink Ribbon donations to over $5000. We also sponsored the Open Women’s Division of Tubes 4 Boobs in 2017 and 2018, raising funds for the Cancer Council’s breast cancer programs.
Interplast plastic and reconstructive surgery in Asia Pacific
Interplast sends team of plastic surgeons and related health professionals to countries across the Asia-Pacific area to help people who would not otherwise be able to afford surgery. These include children with birth defects such as cleft palates and traumatic injuries such as burns. We have been sponsors of Interplast since 2017 to help their important work.
Other charities and community projects
We supported local campaigns to help children in conjunction with HIT 106.9’s breakfast team, including the 50km walk for Emily in 2019.
We supported the Women’s Pro Competition of Surfest in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
Our community criteria
As you can imagine, we are regularly asked to help with new charities and community projects and can’t assist in every case. For us the criteria are:
- very close alignment with plastic surgery (hence our support of Interplast),
- closely aligned with supporting women in our local community (such as Surfest Women), or
- where it provides an opportunity for our team to be involved (such as Febfast).
Please understand that we are unable to help in every case, no matter how worthy the cause may be.
