Key Points

When it comes to facial rejuvenation it is important to note that not all lasers are the same. Our Cutera laser is a powerful and effective medical grade laser, unlike so many of the lasers in the market, and it is the only one of its kind in Newcastle.

Similarly, not all staff doing laser procedures are the same – at Hunter Plastic Surgery you have the confidence of knowing our laser is only operated by our trained Cosmetic Nurses, our Cosmetic Therapists or our Plastic Surgeon, Dr Moncrieff.

Our Cosmetic Therapist will provide a comprehensive skin assessment and treatment plan at your first visit. During this 60 minute consultation our Therapist will:

· Review your medical history and discuss your concerns
· Provide a fruit enzyme medifacial treatment
· Perform a Woods lamp assessment
· Prepare your action plan
· Offer you a medical grade sunscreen

This consultation is $100 and offers $165 of value.

Renewal of the skin’s surface with significantly faster results
Pearl treatment offers the best solution for the removal of uneven texture, sun damage, fine lines, pigmentation and skin rejuvenation with the least downtime.

How does it work?

Pearl laser treats the superficial layers of the skin. During the procedure a portion of the epidermis is removed. There is simultaneous thermal effect to the remaining epidermis which forms a natural protective dressing on the skin. This layer peels off after 3 to 4 days, revealing the healthy, “pearl like” skin underneath. The Pearl treatment, also called a “thermal peel,” is being described as a more advanced, controlled, safer, contemporary version of the chemical peel.

What does it treat?

The Pearl laser addresses all common skin care concerns:
• Reduces fines lines and wrinkles
• Smooths uneven texture and skin discoloration
• Repairs sun damage
• Reduces pore size

Pearl Benefits:

• Full face treatments with the ability to treat the entire epidermis
• Natural dressing protects skin post treatment, alleviating the need for wound care
• Up to 1 hour of procedure time
• 1 – 2 treatments
• 4 – 5 days of social downtime (in most cases)
• Thermal collagen stimulation

Who is best suited to the Pearl laser treatment?

Ideal candidates are patients with light to medium skin tones with mild to moderate sun damage

What is the treatment time?

Treatments usually last about 20 minutes but may be up to 1 hour depending on the area of treatment.

Is it painful?

Patients should understand before they consider this treatment that Pearl is an invasive procedure which requires a local anaesthetic to be administered to minimise discomfort. During recovery, Dr Moncrieff can also prescribe painkillers to help with discomfort but generally over-the-counter tablets will be sufficient. The discomfort associated with the Pearl treatment is an expected part of the process and most patients regard it after the week of recovery as being worth the very dramatic and swift results that they get.

What is the recovery time?

Social downtime, meaning the time it takes to fully recover from the procedure, is generally four to five days.

Why is it better than other treatments?

The Pearl procedure is ideal for patients of almost any age searching for a safe and uncomplicated way to restore the skin’s youthful look and feel in only one or two treatments. It is the answer for patients who want quicker results and less downtime than other procedure available in other clinics, which often require 4 – 6 treatments each spaced one month apart and up to 18 days of total downtime.

How can you get even better results?

You can also mix this Pearl laser therapy for wrinkles with other laser procedures as well as with anti-wrinkle injections or facial fillers. You may also consider the combined Pearl laser treatment with the Pearl Fusion treatment for the best of skin resurfacing available.

How much does it cost?

Procedures are performed under the supervision of our Plastic Surgeon, Dr Nicholas Moncrieff. Single area treatment from: $1000 (includes essential pre and post-treatment skin care and a soothing enzyme facial at Day 5).

Pearl Fractional resurfacing – treatment of deeper lines and imperfections

Although there are many treatments for you to choose from designed to address your fine lines and the clarity of your skin, there hasn’t been a good way, without a long recovery time, for you to address deeper lines and imperfections… until now.
Pearl Fractional is a new, fractional, single treatment laser designed to improve imperfections due to aging and sun damage. The Pearl Fractional procedure volumises skin by creating new collagen and offers the best balance of safety and patient experience with recovery time.

Where is it used?

Pearl Fractional can be used on the entire face. It is uniquely effective in the delicate peri-orbital (around the eyes) and peri-oral (around the mouth) areas. These areas often show the first signs of aging and can be the most challenging to treat.

What makes it different?

Pearl Fractional is different from other lasers because it uses a new laser wavelength to offer both immediate and long-term anti-aging benefits. Unlike other fractional technologies, Pearl Fractional provides an ideal combination of volumising results and rapid recovery.

What does “fractional” mean?

Most people have heard of fractional lasers but many are confused about what exactly that means, and why it is a good thing. The term “fractional” does not have anything to do with the strength or the wavelength of the laser. Fractional therapy describes a treatment that affects only a fraction or small percentage of the skin.

How does it work?

During the procedure, the laser uses heat to create tiny holes, the size of a pore, deep in the skin thus ensuring maximum results in one treatment. This fractional treatment selectively removes columns of sun-damaged tissue leaving surrounding skin intact. This stimulates the growth of healthy, new skin, full of fresh collagen, plumping the skin from below, repairing photo damage (sun damage) and other skin imperfections. The healing time is shortened because the laser is fractional.

How long does it take?

The procedure itself takes about 45 minutes for the full face. Some patients with a particular area of concern may request the area to have extra treatment. This is common around the mouth and around the eyes.

Is it painful?

Patients should understand before they consider this treatment that Pearl fractional is an invasive procedure which requires a local anaesthetic to be administered to minimise discomfort. During recovery, Dr Moncrieff can also prescribe painkillers to help with discomfort but generally over-the-counter tablets will be sufficient. The discomfort associated with the treatment is an expected part of the process and most patients regard it after the week of recovery as being worth the very dramatic and swift results that they get.

How long is the recovery?

After your treatment you will be instructed to apply ointment to the skin for four to five days and should limit sun exposure and wear protective clothing. To give yourself plenty of time for recovery, you should plan to take a week relaxing at home. Depending on your treatment, you may apply make-up in about five to seven days.

How long does it take to see results?

You can expect to see improvement one week after Pearl Fractional. The best part is that you will continue to notice improvement for three to six months as new collagen continues to grow and your skin volume increases.

Can it be combined with other treatments?

Some patients combine Pearl Fractional with Limelight IPL to get rid of hyper-pigmentation and deep dermal imperfections all at once! You may also choose Pearl Fusion, a unique combination of the Pearl laser for rejuvenation and the Pearl Fractional laser for resurfacing your skin.
