Overview

Our face distinguishes us from one another- its structure, appearance and expressions gives us an identity and conveys to the world how we are feeling. As such, age-related changes that can alter the appearance of the face may make an individual feel as if their identity has changed over time.

Changes can occur in the upper, mid, and lower portions of the face and as such different procedures target each of these areas. The mid face lift specifically corrects the aging changes of the lower eyelids, cheeks and nasolabial regions. Overview

Liposuction is a procedure designed to remove unwanted fat deposits, which are resistant to both dieting and exercise, from certain areas of the body. This procedure is not a weight loss procedure, but a body contouring procedure. An ideal candidate for liposuction is relatively fit, have firm, elastic skin, good muscle tone, and are within 30% of their ideal weight, but still possesses excess fat in certain areas that appear disproportionate with the rest of their body.

Overview

A tummy tuck is a procedure that is designed to reduce the appearance of a protruding abdomen through a full redraping of the abdominal skin as well as tightening of the muscles of the entire abdominal wall. This procedure can especially help individuals who have experienced pregnancy or lost a significant amount of weight, but still possess excess skin and fat in their abdomen. A good candidate for a tummy tuck is one who is near their normal body weight, but still possesses a large fat deposit or loose abdominal skin will not respond to diet or exercise. Those who are still planning on losing a lot of weight, or women who are still planning future pregnancies, may want to considering waiting before undergoing a tummy tuck. During a tummy tuck, this excess skin and fat are removed and muscles of the abdominal wall are tightened. This procedure results in a flatter and firmer abdominal appearance.

A tummy tuck will produce a flatter abdominal appearance, but it does also produce the appearance of a permanent scar. Depending on the operation, the scar could be quite extensive. However there are other alternatives to achieving a better abdominal appearance, including a mini tummy tuck (a smaller procedure which principally concentrates on tightening and reshaping the lower abdomen) as well as liposuction alone. Dr Moncrieff can advise you on which method will best achieve that new body you are looking for.

Overview

Having large breasts can cause a variety of medical problems including breathing problems, neck and back pain, and others. Breast reduction offers a solution to these women with large breasts. During breast reduction surgery, fat, glandular tissue, and skin are removed from the breasts. This results in smaller, lighter, higher and possibly firmer breasts. Breast reduction will help a woman's breasts become more proportionate with the rest of her body.

Breast reduction surgery has come a long way over recent times. Dr Moncrieff specialises in short-scar Vertical breast reductions which allow for a volume reduction, reshaping of the breast, nipple/areola reduction and breast lift all in the one operation. This is achieved with only a short vertical scar which is significantly smaller than the conventional anchor or T-Incision technique. p>Over time, the breasts undergo changes in response to factors such as genetics, pregnancy, nursing, weight loss, or lack of skin elasticity that comes with sun damage and age. A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a procedure that raises and reshape the breasts sagging breasts, can provide a more youthful appearance and increase self-esteem and confidence.

For those who are happy with the size/volume of their breasts and just want them to be rejuvenated and lifted to a more youthful position, the breast lift alone can be performed. For those who want their breasts lifted and also want more volume added, a breast lift can be performed in conjunction with an implant. The augmentation mastopexy, or breast lift with implants, therefore not only reshapes and rejuvenates the sagging breast but also increases cup size.

Overview

Breast reconstruction is a procedure available to women who have lost a breast to cancer or women at high risk for breast cancer who want to take a preventative measure against the disease. Through breast reconstruction, a new breast, very similar to a natural breast in form and appearance, is created as a replacement for the original. Breast reconstruction can be performed immediately after mastectomy or as a separate surgery.

Breast reconstruction is a two-step procedure. The first step is to reconstruct the breast mound to the proper size and shape. One method for doing this uses the patient's own abdominal tissues (the Transverse Rectus Abdominus Myocutaneous Flap method or TRAM for short) which many patients are satisfied with upon completion due to the 'tummy tuck' effect. Another method uses an implant filled with silicone or saline. Once the breast mound has been created, the nipple-areolar complex is made, using local flaps of skin and medical tattooing to create the desired color.

Once the new breast has been reconstructed, the opposite breast may need to be lifted or reduced or augmented in order to achieve symmetry.

Otoplasty

Ear reshaping surgery, or Otoplasty, is a procedure designed to reduce large or protruding ears by setting the ears back closer to the head as well as molding, shaping and/or removing cartilage.

A typical candidate for this procedure includes children whose ears have fully grown. This can help prevent the child from having to experience the teasing and ridicule that is associated with having larger ears. However this procedure can be performed on adults as well. All incisions are small and are hidden at the back of the ear.

Lower eyelid surgery

Lower eyelid surgery, or lower blepharoplasty, can freshen and revitalise your face by reducing the appearance of heavy and sagging eyelids, wrinkles, puffiness, bags and hollowness under the eyes.

There are several options for lower eyelid surgery. The ‘Inside' approach involves no external scars and is useful for removing excess fat from the lower eyelid. Alternatively, the ‘Outside' approach involves a well-hidden incision just below the eyelash margin and is useful when there is also excess skin involved.

A breast lift with implants, or augmentation mastopexy, rejuvenates and lifts breasts to a more youthful position and at the same time increases breast volume with the addition of a silicone implant. The operation involved is somewhat more complex than a breast lift alone and requires more planning. The results of this procedure, however, can be quite stunning.

Dr Moncrieff is a fully qualified and experienced Plastic Surgeon committed to the Hunter and Newcastle Regions. He has performed thousands of surgical procedures over more than two decades in medicine. Over 10000 procedures have been in Newcastle.

Dr Moncrieff is a member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS) and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS). The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons is the only statutory recognised body for the training of plastic surgeons in Australia.

Through his extensive training and experience in general plastic and reconstructive surgery he has developed a keen interest skin cancer plastic surgery, aesthetic surgery, and breast reconstruction. He has completed fellowships in both hand and aesthetic surgery.

After working between his practices in Sydney and Newcastle during 2008, he decided to focus solely on the Hunter Region so relocated with his family in early 2009. He consults from his state-of-the-art clinic in Charlestown and operates in various private hospitals in the Region. Dr Moncrieff is also appointed to the Calvary Mater Hospital in Waratah to perform skin lesion removal and breast reconstruction for public patients, making him the only Plastic Surgeon in Newcastle committed to the public system.

Dr Moncrieff graduated from the University of New South Wales in Medicine with Honours in 1997 and completed 10 years of specialist surgical training in 2007.

Dr Moncrieff has been published in medical literature and has regularly presented in medical forums around the country. His most recent presentation to surgeons and related professionals was at the Annual Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery conference in Sydney in October 2009 where he detailed an innovative eyelid lift method. Public examples of Dr Moncrieff's work also appeared in the Channel 10 and Foxtel television show, Saving Kids, in which he conducted a number of emergency operations in the Sydney Children's Hospital. Important note when choosing your surgeon

Concerningly, more and more people are calling themselves 'cosmetic surgeons' as they are attracted to the potential growth in demand for cosmetic surgery - always without the rigorous training and examinations Plastic Surgeons have had to complete. Currently in NSW there is no legislation which stops medical professionals who have not undergone formal surgical training from calling themselves a 'cosmetic surgeon'. Your safeguard is to look for a fully qualified Plastic Surgeon as reflected by the letters FRACS (Plast Surg) under a doctor's name and check that they are affiliated with the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). These titles and memberships are only available to fully qualified Plastic Surgeons who have undergone many years of training and exams in surgery beyond the basic medical school or general surgical training.

You should also check that any doctor you are considering is registered to practice in Australia by searching the Australian Health Practioner Regulation Agency's register here. At Hunter Plastic Surgery we appreciate that your time is valuable. We commit to running as close to schedule as possible and to providing you with the information you require to make an informed decision about your health. Please assist us by completing your medical history as best as you can, prepare a list of questions and bring any scans or x-rays relating to the surgery and if required, organise for a your children to be babysat so that Dr Moncrieff is able to provide you with a valuable consultation without distractions.

Do I need a referral?
A referral from your local GP is a good idea if you are seeing Dr Moncrieff as it will allow you to claim part of the cost of your consultation from Medicare. It also means that most lesion procedures and many common cosmetic operations which have medical benefits (such as breast reductions and tummy tucks) may attract a modest Medicare rebate. 

What if I need to cancel or change my appointment?
Given the high demand for consultations, we ask that patients give us at least 24 hours notice (by phone - 4920 7700) if they are not going to be able to attend at their scheduled time to allow us to contact people on our wait-list to reallocate the time.

If appointments are cancelled or rescheduled by the patient with less than 24 hours notice they will attract a charge of the full consultation fee. For cosmetic and laser patients, this will result in the forfeiture of their $50 deposit and a bill for the remainder will be issued. We reserve the right to decline requests to subsequently rebook for the same patient.

What should I bring to my consultation?

• your referral (if you have one)
• your Medicare card
• your private health insurance card if applicable
• your "Consultation form - medical history" form and the "Visiting Hunter Plastic Surgery" document you were sent after you booked your consultation
• Payment (cash, cheque or credit card). Dr Moncrieff's standard consultation fee payable on the day is $150 or $175 for cosmetic consultations.
• is also a good idea to write a list of any questions that you may have and bring it with you on the day.

It is strongly encouraged that you learn a little about your procedure of interest prior to first consultation by referring to the information about common procedures under the "Our Services" tab. Many of the cosmetic procedures feature a 3D Animation which provides a good insight into the way in which concerns may be addressed through treatment.

What happens during my first consultation?
Dr Moncrieff will discuss your medical history and current concerns.  The Doctor will also discuss your surgical and non-surgical options including risks and potential benefits. For cosmetic patients, 'before' photos will be taken.

What happens after my consultation?
Our Administration Team will prepare a quote for you reflecting the options available and send it to you after your consultation. The quote will include information about how to book your procedure in if you decide to go ahead. Dr Moncrieff does not discuss fees as his focus is on providing excellent medical care and surgical outcomes so we invite you to discuss pricing with our Administration Team.

For larger procedures, you will usually be encouraged to attend a second consultation which is free of charge. This allows time for you to consider all the information you have been given, prepare questions and conduct your own research.

If you book a procedure, a suitable date and time for your surgery will be organised and any required medical tests, x-rays, implants or garments are arranged.

Where will I be treated?
Many procedures can be performed in the Surgery's rooms, including many lesion removals and cosmetic procedures such as anti-wrinkle and filler injections. For more significant procedures, Dr Moncrieff currently books operations in Charlestown Private Hospital, Lingard Hospital and the Calvary Mater Hospital.

How to I prepare for surgery?
Once you decide that surgery is for you, we will tell you what to expect from the surgery and develop an individualised treatment plan for your procedure and post-operative period. Preparing both physically and psychologically for the surgery are important steps to a successful outcome. Understanding the process and your role in it, will help you recover more quickly with fewer problems.

Before surgery, Dr Moncrieff may order any relevant investigations (such as blood tests or X-Rays). Please advise the Doctor of any medications you are taking and any previous illnesses or operations you have had in the past. A complete list of drugs which should be avoided or suspended before operation is available. Smoking is always a problem in plastic surgery as it is toxic and stops the blood flow required for healing. You must advise Dr Moncrieff of your smoking history and discuss a period of abstinence before and after your surgery.

Where can I find pre and post op instructions?
Please ensure you obtain a full list of pre and post operative care instructions from Hunter Plastic Surgery before your procedure. The surgeon's skill and expertise is important to a good outcome, but the care you provide yourself leading up to and following a procedure is vital to achieving the best results.

Surgical options

How much will it cost to see Dr Moncrieff for the first time ?
Dr Moncrieff's standard consultation fee for lesion appointment is $150. Longer appointments, which are usually required for cosmetic procedure discussions, are 30 mins and $175. The fee is subject to a Medicare rebate of $71.40 if you have a doctor's referral.

Can I get a quote for surgery over the phone?
Price ranges for many of the most common procedures are available on this site under the Our Services section (see the information on the particular operation you are interested in). 

For a full personalised quote you should book for a consultation as every patient has different needs and it is always best to discuss procedures being considered directly with Dr Moncrieff. We often find that patients who come in looking for a particular procedure could actually get the results they are looking for with an alternative treatment which costs substantially less, making the cost of the consultation well worth it.

Our fees are very competitive but should just be one element of your decision making process - the surgeon's qualifications, experience and your comfort with him are just as important as the cost of the surgery.

Remember that different providers have different qualifications. Only accredited Plastic Surgeons like Dr Moncrieff have completed the extended surgical training and have passed the rigorous examinations required to obtain that title (for more information please go to the 'General FAQs' section).

Do you 'bulk bill' or 'no gap'?
Unfortunately we are unable to "bulk bill" or "no gap". There are frequent gaps between the surgeon's fees and the amount you can receive back as a rebate from Medicare and your health fund. This is because these rebates have continued to lag well behind inflation and do not reflect the true cost of providing health care. For patients over 70 years of age fee arrangements can be discussed with our Administration Team. It should be noted that for all patients, Dr Moncrieff's fees are set well below the Australian Medical Association's recommended fee schedule.

Hunter Plastic Surgery will provide a fee estimate for surgery and we encourage you to check with Medicare and your health fund to determine your specific rebate entitlement. We also invite you to discuss fees with our administration.

What are the costs of hospital operations?
With all surgical procedures there are three main types of costs that need to be considered. These are the surgical fee, the anaesthetic fee and the hospital fee.

The anaesthetic fee is time dependent, while the hospital fee may vary depending on which hospital you choose to have your surgery performed at. Your private health fund may cover some of these elements which can significantly reduce the overall costs. We will prepare a detailed invoice which will explain and itemise all the costs that are associated with your procedure.

For cosmetic procedures, please note that there is a non-refundable deposit of 20% of the surgical fee due when you book in your procedure. This is required to secure a date for your operation in hospital.

Note that all cosmetic surgery operations must be paid in full 2 weeks prior to the scheduled procedure. If payment is not received by the due date, the operation will be cancelled.

Do you offer finance for operations?
Hunter Plastic Surgery does not offer payment plans but there are a number of companies in the market that can assist with funding medical procedures. We do not have relationships with any of these companies, but suggest that they can be found by searching for "Cosmetic Surgery Financing" or similar terms in internet search engines.

What are the costs of operative procedures in the rooms?
Where procedures are conducted in the rooms of Hunter Plastic Surgery a fee in addition to the Surgeon's fee is applicable to cover the cost of the equipment, nursing staff, sterilisation, administration and items consumed (for example, dressings, stitches and medical creams). This fee is $250 and it is not covered by health funds or Medicare.

Will my private health insurance cover the costs of surgery?
The level of coverage varies on the type of procedure, level of cover you have, your waiting periods and the exclusions of your health fund.

We urge patients to contact their health insurer once they have a quote from us which itemises the elements of their proposed procedure to see what cover they have. Due to privacy laws, Hunter Plastic Surgery can not make these enquiries on your behalf so any estimate of health fund rebates we provide are indicative only and must be confirmed by the patient before the procedure to avoid potentially significant unexpected costs.

How do I claim a rebate for my procedure?
Once your procedure has been completed, you can take your receipt to Medicare if it has a Medicare item number (generally for most lesions, breast reduction, breast reconstruction, rhinoplasty, abdominoplasty and a number of other plastic surgery procedures). Purely cosmetic procedures (such a anti-wrinkle injections or breast augmentations) will not attract a Medicare rebate.

Once Medicare has assessed your claim, you can take your documentation to your health fund. Generally, health funds won't pay a rebate on items not subject to a Medicare rebate.

What is the difference between a Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon?
Qualified Plastic Surgeons have had to complete not only their medical degrees, but an additional 7-10 years in post graduate surgical training. Two to five of these years are usually spent in general surgical training and a further four years in specialty plastic and cosmetic surgery training. The level of plastic surgery training in Australia is world class. This training culminates in a qualification called the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS).

Your safeguard is to look for a fully qualified Plastic Surgeon as reflected by the letters FRACS (Plast Surg) under a doctor's name and check that they are affiliated with the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). These titles and memberships are only available to fully qualified Plastic Surgeons who have undergone many years of training and exams in surgery beyond the basic medical school training.

By way of contrast, those calling themselves cosmetic surgeons only have to have a basic medical degree. There are no legal requirement for them to train in surgery and while many of these people are good doctors, potential patients should understand they are not fully qualified as surgeons or more particularly, they have not done the training and passed the rigorous practical and theoretical examinations required to be entitled to the title of Plastic Surgeon.

Potential patients should always request the credentials of any surgeon, their specialities and all risks and rehabilitation associated with the type of procedure you're after.

What makes members of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons unique?

• Members are bona fide specialist Plastic Surgeons who are in full-time plastic surgery practice.
• Members have undertaken a minimum of 12 years education and training.
• Members have undertaken at least 7 years of training after the completion of medical school.
• The Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery training program requires a minimum of 5 years specialist Surgical Education and Training.
• Members hold a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS Plast) or its equivalent.
• The Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) is an award, fully accredited by the Australian Medical Council which is the only body authorised by the Commonwealth Government to certify all medical training.
• ASPS is authorised by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons to administer post graduate surgical training programs for the specialty of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
• ASPS promotes research in the specialty of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

How can I check if my doctor is registered in Australia?

You should check that any doctor you are considering is registered to practice in Australia by searching the Australian Health Practioner Regulation Agency's register here. You should particularly look to see if the doctor has any conditions or reprimands in relation to their practice which may impact on your proposed procedure or relationship with them.

Nasal surgery, or rhinoplasty, can have a great affect on one's appearance. There are some people that have been unhappy with their nasal appearance their whole lives, and then there are those who have had alterations to their nose as a result of injury. For these individuals, nasal surgery can help renew one's nasal appearance and bring back balance to one's face.

Nasal surgery can be performed for cosmetic reasons and enhance one's appearance, but it can also be performed for reconstructive purposes and help improve one's breathing.

Nose reshaping procedures can help to correct the disproportionate appearance of the nose by altering the size or shape of the nose, the nasal tip, the span of the nostrils, or the angle between the nose and the upper lip. At Hunter Plastic Surgery, our surgeon will spend time with you discussing your goals and defining realistic expectations.

There are two basic forms of nose reshaping surgery - open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty. In open rhinoplasty, the nasal skin is lifted off the nasal skeleton to allow for more exposure of the cartilages and bones of the nose. Closed rhinoplasty, on the other hand, involves internal incisions only and the skin of the nose stays in position during the entire procedure.

Open nose surgery

This type of nose reshaping surgery involves small internal incisions and an additional, tiny external incision on the underside of the nose, across the columella. This allows the skin of the nose to be lifted away from the internal framework allowing for greater control over any internal modifications, especially of the nose tip. Recovery time is usually a little longer than that for a closed rhinoplasty.

Closed nose surgery

This type of nose reshaping surgery involves small internal incisions only, so there are no visible scars at the end of the procedure. Skin is not lifted away from the framework of the nose and the recovery time is shorter than an open rhinoplasty.

Overview

Age and other factors can cause one's eyebrows to sag or drop, giving a person the appearance of looking angry, sad, or tired. A person with these features could be considered a good candidate for a forehead lift. A forehead lift can address these problems by surgically removing or altering the muscles and tissues that cause wrinkling and/or drooping in the area above the eyes. The eyebrows are raised and frown lines are minimized.

The procedure results in a more youthful and refreshed appearance. The procedure is done endoscopically, using small concealed scars within the hair of the scalp.

This procedure is a significant procedure often chosen to assist people who have lost a significant amount of weight, such as those who have undergone bariatric surgery, there is often a large excess of loose, sagging skin that doesn't tighten on its own. Such skin can detract from the aesthetic appearance of the weight loss and can be disappointing to a person who has worked hard to lose weight.

A lower body lift is a procedure that extends the tummy tuck incision completely around the lower torso. This allows re-suspension of the lateral and anterior thighs along with the traditional tummy tuck improvements. Given the substantial impact on the body of this procedure, it may be conducted in more than one operation. Overview

For patients that have lost a large amount of weight in particular, thigh liposuction alone may not be enough to redefine large or sagging thighs in the way they would like. This occurs particularly when there is an excessive skin component. In these circumstances, excess deposits of skin and fat around the thigh area may require a lateral or medial thigh lift to reshape the area.

For a medial thigh lift, Dr Moncrieff hides the incisions in the groin area, while for a lateral thigh lift the incisions are hidden in the lateral bikini line. Either way, the procedures will produce an immediately apparent difference in the contour of the thigh region.

Excessive deposits of skin and fat in the upper arm region (flabby arms) may need more than simple arm liposuction of the area to produce the desired change. An arm lift procedure, or brachioplasty, combines the use of liposuction with incisions in the inner arm and armpit to tighten the surrounding skin and produce slimmer more attractive arms.

Injuries, disease and birth defects all can lead to deformities that can be repaired with reconstructive plastic surgery. It is generally performed not just to improve appearance but often, more importantly, to improve function. A sign of a woman's feminity, breasts not only perform an important role in feeding babies, but are often a large contributor to feminine self-esteems. Dr Moncrieff specialises in this part of the body, with a particular focus on augmentation, reduction and reconstruction. Overview

Breast augmentation is one of the most common plastic surgical procedures in Australia and involves the placement of implants within a woman's breast in order to increase their size and enhance their shape.

There are many reasons why women choose to undergo breast augmentation. Some women feel their breasts did not fully develop and would like to increase their breast size, and some want to balance a difference in their breast size. Then there are those who have lost volume in their breast due to pregnancy and nursing and would like to regain a more youthful breast appearance.

During your consultation, the doctor will also discuss with you more detailed information about the breast augmentation procedure, including implant placement, types of breast implant used, desired breast size, your goals and expectations for the procedure and other information.

Cost: Most implant procedures cost between $11500- $12500. This is inclusive of the surgeon's fee, implants, hospital stay, garment and anaesthetist's fee.

Under Breast Technique
Breast augmentation with an incision directly under the breast is the most common technique used by Dr Moncrieff in his practice for breast enlargement surgery. This is because the implant can be positioned most accurately into its pocket using this method and any form of implant can be used including the anatomical (tear-drop) range.

The implant itself may be placed under the pectoralis muscle, under the breast tissue or a combination of both in the ‘dual plane' technique. Indeed, the ‘dual plane' technique of implant placement yields some of the best results possible in breast augmentation surgery. The scar involved usually heals to an almost imperceptible line.

Overview

Nipples come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The most common complaint is a nipple that is inverted or non-protruding. Alternatively, the areola, the pigmented region around the nipple may be too large for the breast. Some, such as those that are undergoing breast reconstruction, have lost their nipple altogether and need a new one created.

Whatever the condition, Dr Moncrieff uses specialised plastic surgical techniques to create or reshape the nipple to one that is better balanced to the breast shape.

Overview

Male breast over-development, or gynaecomastia, is generally a bilateral (both sides) and symmetrical anatomical abnormality of male breast maturation.

Occasionally due to endocrine hormone abnormalities, the process most often occurs with no apparent cause in adolescent or fully mature males. Obesity may be a contributing factor, but equally often the problem is simply due to undesirable pectoral fat storage and some element of glandular tissue enlargement in the male breast.

Gynaecomastia affects an estimated 40 to 60 percent of men. It may affect only one breast or both. For men who feel self-conscious about their appearance, breast reduction surgery can help.

During this treatment, excess fat is either removed with liposuction alone or via a combination approach involving direct excision and liposuction. In the latter, a scar is hidden around the perimeter of the areola. Results are long lasting and natural-looking.

Pauline is a Practice and Specialist Cosmetic Nurse. She has worked in general, women’s and paediatric units in hospitals in Newcastle and Sydney and in 2011 completed her training in Cosmetic Nursing and Dermal Therapy. Pauline has worked with us since 2010 as a Practice Nurse so has a deep knowledge of cosmetic enhancement, both surgical and non-surgical. Kathryn Rebellato

Kathryn is our Senior Specialist Cosmetic Nurse. She completed her training in Cosmetic Nursing and Dermal Therapy in 2010 and opened her own Dermal Therapy clinic which was merged with Hunter Plastic Surgery in 2011. She is a very experienced injector and laser rejuvenation specialist. Kathryn also holds current qualifications as a Registered Nurse and has over 2 decades of nursing experience. Louise Walker

Louise is a Practice Nurse and manages the post operative care of our surgical patients. She also works in the Recovery Ward of Lingard Hospital so oftens gets to care for cosmetic patients who have undergone larger procedures from the hospital to our practice rooms. Louise has three decades experience in nursing and is a current Registered Nurse.

The management and administration team at Hunter Plastic Surgery includes professionals with extensive experience in Newcastle and across Australia.

Amber Moncrieff

Amber is our Practice Director. She and Dr Moncrieff founded Hunter Plastic Surgery together in 2009.

Amber previously held senior roles in business and politics in Sydney and Canberra. She holds a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and degrees in Law and Commerce.

Alex Miguel

Alex is our Practice Manager, responsible for the management of our clinic and patients. She works closely with our patients to help them understand the surgical process. She also manages our suppliers and hospitals to ensure the best experience possible is provided to our patients.

Alex previously held corporate roles in Sydney and managed hospitality businesses across Australia. Alex has completed training with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in practice management and is a founding member of the NSW Plastic Surgery Practice Managers Group.

Lisa O'Connor

Lisa is our Office Administrator and looks after our patients to ensure their experience from the front desk to hospital scheduling is managed smoothly. Lisa is there to answer any questions our patients have regarding their upcoming surgery including the pre-operative and post-operative processes involved.

Lisa has over 15 years of experience in the medical field including administrative roles in general practice as well as a position as a senior pathology collector for a large multinational company.

Jessica Laing

Jessica is our Administration Assistant and is often the first friendly and professional point of contact for our patients on the phone or in our clinic. She has previously worked in a general practice so has a strong understanding of the referral process and the flow of information between your doctor and our surgeon.

Jessica has completed training in office administration.

Visiting Hunter Plastic Surgery

Our suite is located on the second level of 3 Hopetoun Street, Charlestown. Our building is a yellow fronted three storey building close to the entrance to the Myer entry of the Charlestown Square carpark. There is timed on-street parking on Hopetoun Street and additional parking in the Myer carpark or the Hilltop Plaza carpark close-by.
