Our Community Commitment
As part of the Newcastle and greater Hunter community, we support a number of community initiatives.
Interplast plastic and reconstructive surgery in Asia Pacific
Interplast sends team of plastic surgeons and related health professionals to countries across the Asia-Pacific area to help people who would not otherwise be able to afford surgery. These include children with birth defects such as cleft palates and traumatic injuries such as burns. In 2017 we became a Gold Sponsor to further assist in Interplast’s important work.
Breast cancer charities
We also support breast cancer fundraising. We have run Pink Ribbon team events every year since 2009, donating over bringing our total Pink Ribbon donations to over $5000. We also sponsored the Open Women’s Division of Tubes 4 Boobs in 2017, raising funds for the Cancer Council’s breast cancer programs.
Jodie’s Place Refuge
We are also proud supporters of Jodie’s Place Refuge near Cessnock. Our involvement started when our Practice Director, Amber Moncrieff, heard about the service struggling after a break-in and discovered they had no website or on-line donations facility. Amber established both, funding them until 2018. The team then got involved with fundraising, as did our patients by helping to organise several fundraising events, including movie nights bringing total funds raised to over $10,000 in just 12 months! These funds were used in late 2017 to renovate Jodie’s Place, making it more welcoming and practical, as well as open a 4th bedroom suitable for another women and her children.
Other charities and community projects
In 2016 and 2017 we have donated funds or gifts for charity auctions to: Variety the Children’s Charity, Mark Hughes Foundation, Cancer Council, Red Nose Day, Give Me 5 for Kids and Brave Hearts.
We supported the Women’s Pro Competition of Surfest in 2017 and will again in 2018.
