Overview

Liposuction is a procedure designed to remove unwanted fat deposits, which are resistant to both dieting and exercise, from certain areas of the body. This procedure is not a weight loss procedure, but a body contouring procedure. An ideal candidate for liposuction is relatively fit, have firm, elastic skin, good muscle tone, and are within 30% of their ideal weight, but still possesses excess fat in certain areas that appear disproportionate with the rest of their body.

Cost: Varies by area treated. As a guide of the total costs, including surgeon's fee, anaesthetist and hospital:
• Abdomen and flanks - $6-6,500
• Saddlebags - $4,500-$5,000
• Upper arms - $4,500-$5,000
• Upper/lower thigh - $6-6,500
• Neck - $4-4,500
• Back - $4,500-$5,000
Procedure: Performed under General Anaesthetic in hospital
Hospital Stay: Overnight stay
Recovery: One to two weeks off work, garment for 6 weeks, bruising and swelling for up to four weeks
